SOA Design Patterns Book Chapters Accepted into PLoP Conference

I am proud to announce that the book chapters which I submitted to PLoP have been accepted into the Writer’s Workshop for peer review. This is quite an honor, and I am humbled to be invited to converse with such software legends as Ralph Johnson (co-author of the landmark book Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software), Joseph Yoder (co-author of the infamous Big Ball of Mud), Bobby Woolf and Kyle Brown (co-authors of Enterprise Integration Patterns).

Two-Phase Commit is Evil !!!

Distributed transactions have been a part of the developer’s toolkit for a long time. Many assume that when resources like databases are not centralized, we must use distributed transactions. However, there is a dark side we must be prepared to confront if we follow this path. In this session we’ll come face to face with the devil, and learn how to defeat him. We’ll delve into the CAP theorem, and present a few real-world examples that demonstrate the wisdom this theorem encapsulates. We’ll also explore several alternatives to distributed transactions, and review the trade-offs associated with these approaches. View the "Two-PhaseCommit is Evil" presentation.
